How commissions work

The whole thing, both sides, in one page.

Kylee introduces you. It does not sit in the middle.

  • The money never touches Kylee. The buyer pays the artist directly, using a method the artist has saved — PayPal, Ko-fi, whatever they use. There is no escrow and no platform balance.
  • Payments are recorded, not processed. The buyer marks a payment as sent; the artist confirms it arrived. Both of those are statements by a person, not something the platform verified.
  • Nothing moves on its own. A commission changes state because one of you clicked something. The thread always tells you which of you that is.
  • Kylee cannot settle a dispute. It holds no money, so it has nothing to refund and no side to take. What it does keep is an exact, unalterable record of what was agreed and what each of you said happened.

Reading a commission card

Artists publish a card for each kind of work they take. This one is made up.

Start to finish

  1. 1

    The buyer sends a brief

They pick a type, describe what they want, answer whatever the artist asks, and attach references. The price and the payment terms are frozen as the buyer saw them, so they cannot move afterwards. A new inquiry is one-way until the artist replies.

  2. 2

    The artist accepts or declines

Accepting books the job at the published price plus any add-ons ticked — there is nothing left to haggle over. Declining always carries a reason, so the buyer knows whether to rewrite, wait, or go elsewhere. Only accepting uses up one of the artist's commission slots.

  3. 3

    Money changes hands directly

If the artist asks for anything up front, the job waits there. The buyer pays them by whatever method is saved on the commission, marks it sent, and the artist confirms once they can actually see it. Confirming a deposit is what starts the work.

  4. 4

    The artist works, and delivers

Work-in-progress updates go in the thread. The final files arrive watermarked, so the buyer can see the finished piece immediately and the artist has not handed over full-resolution work before being paid.

  5. 5

The last payment unlocks the files

The buyer pays the balance; the artist confirms it; the originals unlock. Then the buyer either marks it complete or asks for one of the revisions the type included.

  6. 6

    It closes

Either side can close out delivered work, and it closes on its own if the buyer goes quiet, so an artist's slot is never held hostage. The thread stays open a few days afterwards, then becomes a read-only record.

Watch it happen

An invented commission, walked from brief to finished, with each step explained as it goes. Nothing in it is real.

Staying safe

  • Pay the saved method, never one pasted into chat. An artist's payment details are shown by the platform from a saved record, and the thread says when one was changed recently. A message asking you to send money somewhere else is the oldest scam there is.
  • Artists: confirm nothing you have not seen land. Confirming a payment releases the buyer's files. Check your own account first — a screenshot is not money.
  • Keep it in the thread. The record is only worth having if what was agreed is in it. Nothing in a commission thread is ever rewritten or deleted.

Taking commissions yourself

Verified artists set out their commission types, terms and payment details in settings. Each type becomes a card like the one above.
